      Aims and demands:

      1.Language skills:

      Students learn to talk about kinds of transportation, and how to get to places, how long it takes to go to places,and how far the places are.

      2.Target language:

      Words: take,minute,kilometer,transportation,subway,

      train,plane and numbers.

      Phrases: take+a/the+bus/carby+bus/car

      Sentences: How do you get to school?

      I get to school by bus./I take the bus to school.

      How does she/he get to some places?

      She/He gets to some places by bus./She/He takes the bus to some places.

      How long does it take?It’s 10 minutes.

      How far is it? It’s 3 kilometers.

      3.Moral object:

      To enable the students to work with others and help each other.

      Analysis of the material:

      The topic of this unit is about transportation.This lesson is important, it is the first one of this Unit. So if the students learn it well, it will be useful to learn the rest of this Unit.

      It helps students to learn about some kinds of transportation,some traffic rules,and how to get to places,how long it takes to go to places,how far the places are. To set the scene,test students’ knowledge and increase their vocabulary.such a topic is related to their daily life. So it can raise the students’ learning interests and improve their spoken English.

      Teaching methods:

      The main instructional aims of learning English is to cultivate students ' basic abilities of listening ,speaking, reading, and writing and their good sense of the English language . So in this lesson , I 'll mainly use " task-based " teaching method . It offers an opportunity to complete the tasks which can help students to get a better understanding of the key structures of the conversation . What's more , scene method , communicative teaching method will be needed.
      Teaching aids:a recorder ,multi-media computer.

      Teaching procedures:

      Step Ⅰ Warming-up and Revision

      1. Enjoy the English song "Over the mountains (driving)"

      2. Greetings and free talk.

      Step Ⅱ Lead in

      How do you get to school?

      Step Ⅲ New lesson

      1.Students learn the new words .Then finish 1a.

      2.Ask and answer the question.

      A: How do you get to school?

      B: I walk to school. I ride a bike to school.

      I take a bus to school. I take a car to school.

      I take the subway to school. I take the train to school.

      Then work in pairs.And then show it.

      3.Students do 1b.

      4.Ask and answer:How long does it take?It takes 10 minutes.How far is it?It’s 10 kilometers.

      Then students practice the conversation.

      5.Students do 2a and 2b.

      6.Students make a conversation.

      Step Ⅳ Exercise and summary.

      Step Ⅴ Homework:

      1. Work-book the first period of U 3

      2. Let the students make a survey –How do your group members get to school or get to some places ?
